It has been a week to remember for the newly admitted students of JOSEPH AYO BABALOLA UNIVERSITY. The administration and the Student Union Government dedicated this week to welcoming our freshers with orientation programs, introductory parties, campus tours, and a befitting Thanksgiving service. Our freshers wasted no time acclimatizing with the school spirit, and some even went on to steal spotlights and become positive trending topics among the returning students.
Orientation Program
The week kicked off with the Orientation Program at the Oba Oladele Olashore Auditorium, which gave us our first highlight when an enlightened fresher, Favor, shared the many things she loves about our institution, also stating that she has already learned a lot in just one week, a statement which caught the attention of multiple Staylites prompting them to admonish that it is just the beginning. She will eventually learn a lot about all that JABU truly has to offer.
SUG Meet & Greet with Freshers
Next, the Meet and Greet the SUG had with the freshers allowed the Freshers to showcase their beauty, steeze, and talents that shine outside academics. It was an opportunity for them to socialize, exchange contacts, and, y’know, prepare for the coming weeks, if you catch my drift.
Campus Tour/Morning Exercise
It was also the perfect setup for the Campus Tour/Morning Exercise, where the SUG showed freshers the different spots around the university, like the Basketball and Volleyball courts, which they’ll soon realize will be their regular “chilling” spots in the evening.
The tour took them through Old Cafe, where they’d have a lot of “meetings” if they choose to punch above their level, to the Auditorium that currently doubles as the Chapel, a place where their faiths will be molded or rehabilitated (if you know, you know!).
The tour/jog also took them to the Mall, where they’d spend almost all their allowance, then to our modest Stadium and onto the Academic Buildings 1, 2, and 3, where the majority of them will have their core lectures and also return after official hours for “reading sessions” and “tutorials,” like the serious students we hope they are.
SUG President, Precious Edozie shared an advice for the new students,
Be consistent and have your passion ahead of you. There are times during the course of your study where you’ll be weary. It’s normal to feel that way but it’s your passion and determination that will motivate and help you pull through. And most importantly, KNOW GOD!
Edozie M. Precious, SUG President 2023/24
Finally, the tour took them through the College of Health Sciences and Law Complex who are like two proud siblings who think they’re the school’s favorite, all the way down to the New Senate Building, Library, Mass Comm Theatre, and Postgraduate Buildings where they’ll probably come to take pictures if they can brave the hot sun and long walk from their hostels just for the Sunday aesthetics.
Sunday Thanksgiving Service
Speaking of Sunday aesthetics, Freshers’ Week was brought to a glorious conclusion at the Thanksgiving service on Sunday. The new students were encouraged by the topic We Can Take Over, and it was an exhilarating experience for all in attendance.
We are rooting for this year’s Freshers, and we hope they can take over in a positive light because this campus is theirs to conquer.
